Where does Sight Step work?

Anywhere with walkable streets. It's at its best in towns and cities, where there are parks, water and sights to plan around. In very quiet areas it still plans pleasant loops, with fewer places to stop at.

Why does it need my location?

Every loop starts and ends where you are, so Sight Step needs to know where that is. During a walk it also uses your location to show your progress and tell you about turns. If you've turned location access off, go to Settings, then Privacy & Security, then Location Services, then Sight Step, and choose While Using the App.

No loops were found. What can I do?

Try a different length: very short or very long walks sometimes have fewer good options. If the app says "Just a moment", it's waiting briefly for Apple Maps, which limits how many routes can be calculated per minute, and it continues on its own.

Can I put my phone in my pocket?

Yes. The walk continues with the phone locked, and you'll get a notification and a tap before each turn and when you reach a place. Allow notifications when Sight Step asks, or turn them on later in Settings, then Notifications, then Sight Step.

Why are my steps marked "est."?

Without motion access, Sight Step estimates your steps from the distance you walk. To count real steps, go to Settings, then Privacy & Security, then Motion & Fitness, and turn on Sight Step.

How much space does it use?

Sight Step keeps map data for areas you've walked, up to 100 MB, so walks there load instantly. You can see how much is stored, and clear it, under About in the app.

How do I delete a walk?

Open "Your walks" and swipe left on the walk you'd like to remove.
